Lloyd

I met Lloyd during Shantz (Hazel Doner) family visits to the home farm soon after I married Gaye. The visits were too infrequent of course. It was clear to us that Isobel had been cooking for days and Lloyd had the gardens and lawns in immaculate condition. Lloyd and I made a special connection right from the start: partly because I was a kid from the Beach (Wasaga) but mostly because I was a silo builder and enjoyed a barn as much as he did. Each time we visited, Lloyd and I always caught a few quiet moments together. I remember too, he had some of the same mannerisms of his dad.

Later in life, Gaye and I made a few visits to the bungalow in Stayner and, when Hazel was with us, we had a couple more lovely meals together. Finally, Gaye and I had some visits with Lloyd and Isobel in the retirement homes in town and later in Barrie. The staff in Barrie always mentioned this lovely couple they often saw holding hands.

I will remember Lloyd as an incredibly hard working man on and off the farm. He was soft spoken mostly, had a tender heart that could be moved to tears and strong feelings about things all at the same time. Lloyd fretted about things more than I wished but he left constant, warm, memories in my life.
