Obituary for Sonia Arlene Percey (Sullivan)

PERCEY, Sonia Arlene, daughter of Norma Sullivan and the late Boyd Sullivan, born at St. John’s, Newfoundland, peacefully departed surrounded by family on October 16, 2022.

Married on October 26, 1979 to Wayne Philip Percey of St. John’s, Newfoundland, faithful husband of almost 43 years. She dedicated her early years as a mother to her children full time before pursuing her goal of becoming a licensed hair stylist. She graduated with honours in 2002 and enjoyed a 15-year career in the beauty industry.

A devout Toronto Maple Leafs fan, she never missed a game and excelled at tracking statistics. She lived an active life, walked daily and was well known by her neighbours. She had a love of hobbies such as knitting, crafting and card making and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She supported various charities, including the RVH Cancer Centre and frequently donated knit goods to the Barrie Women’s Shelter.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children, Amanda de Groot (nee Percey), Chad Percey, her son-in-law Joseph de Groot, her daughter-in-law Chantal Fournier and her grandchildren Zachary and Arianna de Groot.

She is survived by her sisters Judy (Chris) Strugnell, Jeanette (Tom) Hollett, Bonnie (David) Kirby- Sheppard, Miriam (Wayne) Moore, Valerie (Jeff) Sellars and her brothers Keith (Lori) Sullivan, Eugene ‘Max’ (Sharon) Sullivan and Rod (Melissa) Sullivan as well many loved nieces, nephews, extended family and cherished friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Sonia Percey to the RVH Cancer Centre at foundation.rvh.on.ca/donate . A private celebration of life will be held at date to be announced.
