Obituary for Ruth Ivadelle White (Besley)

White, Ruth Ivadelle (nee Besley)

It is with great sadness that the family of Ruth Ivadelle White (Besley) announce her peaceful passing on Saturday January 7, 2023 at the age of 82, at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie, Ontario. Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Cathie White and Barb White (Richard Burrows); grandchildren: Michael, Will, Matthew and Emma; sisters Sharon (Gerry) Vanderburg, and Judy (Craig) Bellamy; as well as nieces, Krista (Todd) Young; Susan Bellamy, Heather (Bob) Bellamy, Deanna (Kris) McMenamon, Karen White, nephews; Jamie (Jill) Vanderburg, Tim Bellamy, cousin Linda (Ray) Sugars, extended cousins and friends. Ruth was predeceased by her loving, devoted husband David White and her parents Earl and Ivadelle Besley.

Ruth was the first daughter born to Earl and Ivadelle. She was raised in Shelburne where she met and married her high school sweetheart David White. Ruth graduated from high school and went on to graduate from Teacher's College in Toronto, where she acquired a Primary School Specialist Certificate. She subsequently spent years in Toronto, Winnipeg, and Saskatoon during which time her daughters were born, all prior to relocating and establishing roots in Wasaga Beach.

Locally, in Wasaga Beach, Ruth professionally worked many years as a teacher. Kindergarten was her calling as she had a knack for engaging with young children, always believing in, and nurturing each and every child's potential. Ruth had an uncanny ability to touch people in a kind and giving way. Ruth truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. She cherished socializing with friends and family, always with an open door to her home. She also engaged openly with people she met. Whether on the street, during her travels, or in a lineup, she brightened the present moment. She always managed to lift the spirits of those around her.

You could often find Ruth indulging her sweet tooth ( with ice cream of course ! ) either pralines 'n cream or butter pecan ,after a long shift of scooping. Many summers were devoted to the seasonal family business known as the beloved Wasaga Dairy. In addition, Ruth participated in many years of community projects and service with the Kinette Club of Wasaga Beach. Always willing to enthusiastically volunteer, she assumed many positions and roles with pride. She was humbly surprised to be recognized and honoured with the Life Membership award that was bestowed upon her.

Later in life and in retirement , Ruth enjoyed the active lifestyle and pure joy of being a proud Grandmother. As a grandma we never knew who was babysitting who ?! We would find her in goal on the ice or on the soccer pitch, building sandcastles, getting messy with multiple arts and crafts, dawning her favourite Halloween character, and teaching her love of music. Never on the sidelines grandma was the ultimate cheerleader, displaying with pride, the love of her grandchildren.

She will also be dearly missed by her friends at Victoria Village. The family would like to give a special thank-you to the staff both at Waterside and Victoria Village for all of their compassionate care.It was through her musicality, sing -a -longs around the piano, song, dance and play, that Ruth exuded warmth, compassion, and positivity. Fondly remembered and dearly missed, her love for her family is eternal.

Friends are invited to join the family for a come and go celebration of Ruth's life at Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home, 509 River Road West, Wasaga Beach on Friday, January 13,2023 from 1-4pm. A private family service will be held at a later date. Please bring your thoughts, prayers, stories, and fond memories to reminisce and chat. Memorial donations may be make in Ruth's name to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
