Leonard Leslie Brillinger passed away at home surrounded by his precious family on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 after a battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Leonard was pre-deceased by his parents Les and Irene Brillinger and his sister Joan Sprague. He is survived by Nancy, his beloved wife of forty-six years, and their children Lori (Scott), Leslie (Dan) and Ian (Ashley). He was a loving Poppy to his grandchildren whom he adored and who brought such joy to his life: Kathleen and Grace, Ryker, Ella and Mason. He will be remembered by his dear nephews Bruce (Karen) Fisher and Ron (Manon) Fisher and Leonard’s canine pal Mojo and farm cat Lilly. Leonard was born on March 28, 1948 and the farm on the Sixth Line was his home for the majority of his life, moving to Stayner only nine years ago to allow Ian to follow Leonard’s legacy, his love of farming, of cherishing the land he rode his trike on, went to school from, and a community that supported one another through hardship and celebration. Leonard lived his life with grace and kindness, in service to his family and community, a rare kind of man jumping in wherever needed, wherever he could help, whether it be tilling the land or baking a lasagna for his family’s dinner and asking for little in return. He watched in wonder as his children grew, taking such pride in them, feeling so blessed as he and Nancy shaped and cheered on their children. Leonard had a giggle, slipping in a joke wherever he could, sometimes so seamlessly it could be missed, but his grin and laugh could not be matched. Leonard left his mark on everyone he knew and loved, leaving them better for having known him. Leonard was cared for with extreme kindness and Leonard’s family thank Dr. Mark Quigg and the team of PSWs and nurses from the VON, St Elizabeth’s and CBI. Their compassionate work allowed Leonard to pass peacefully in his own home with his family at his side, watching family videos and remembering the many happy times they spent together, celebrating the glorious privilege of being family. Friends will be received at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home – Stayner Chapel, 7313 Highway 26 Stayner, on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 from 6 to 9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at Centennial United Church, 234 William Street, Stayner on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 2 p.m. Donations in Leonard’s memory may be directed to Parkinson Canada or Centennial United Church in Stayner.
