Obituary for Joseph (Monty) Montague Attwood

Attwood, Joseph Montague (Monty)
On Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, Joseph (Monty) Attwood passed away peacefully in his 72nd year with his spouse of 39 years, Nancy Rugman by his side. Loving step-Dad to Charity (Trevor) Dobbs and Nicole (Mike) Frankcom. Dear Grandpa to Alexia, Stephanie, Carrie-ann and Rudy (predeceased). Monty is survived by his sisters Joan, Shirley and Linda (Russell). Pre-deceased by his sister Beverly and brothers Tom (Bud) and John (Jack). Monty will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland to Gladys and Joseph Attwood, Monty was the youngest of seven children. He moved to Toronto when he was 18 to start a career as a mechanic with his older brother Tom. He obtained his mechanic’s license and worked in that capacity for 40+ years, ending with 20+ years at Gibson Transport in Alliston. He was a talented mechanic with a knack for trouble shooting. Monty was a kind, gentle man who loved music. He played bass guitar and sang with several bands over the years. Some may remember Cheyenne, a country band that played locally for many years in the ’80’s and early 90’s. He loved to get the flattop out and sing at family gatherings. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing. He could work a fly rod like a pro and we enjoyed many outings as a family camping and fishing. Monty’s family wish to extend a sincere thank you to the doctors and nurses at Collingwood General & Marine Hospital for going above and beyond to keep him comfortable during his last days. Cremation has taken place and a private family burial will take place at a later date.
