John Charles Doyle
(April 21, 1951 - July 10, 2020)
Doyle, John - In Loving Memory of John Doyle, born in St John’s Newfoundland on April 21, 1951. John passed away peacefully at the Huronia Guest House, Stayner, Ontario on July 10, 2020 just 69 Years young.
John lived with his family for 25 years in Denmark where he worked as an addiction counsellor. John played classical guitar, loved movies, music, games and enjoyed connecting with his family abroad through social media and posted his satirical comments with enthusiasm. He always had a joke ready for any kind of occasion. Earlier John completed Editorial and Journalism studies at Centennial college in Toronto and was a talented editor and writer and became a founder and contributor to Now magazine. He was a born literary scholar and read with a passion for learning and sharing knowledge. He was a kind and loving father, had strong beliefs and views of the world. He was strong, stubborn and helpful to those who needed and wanted help.
John loved life. Unfortunately, it became harder as his heart became weaker but that did not stop him from fighting until the end.
John is survived by former spouse Bodill and his son Kyle who live in Denmark. They will miss him deeply. Daughter Tobin and granddaughters Baya and Billie who reside in Alberta.
John was the 3rd oldest of 7 Doyle siblings. He is now reunited with his parents Edward and Evelyn, and his sister Gloria. John will be dearly missed by his remaining siblings’ sisters Maria, Marion, Rita, Judee and brother Joseph.
John will be missed by his remaining relatives including cousins and many nieces and nephews. John’s great sense of humour, lively conversations over countless cups of coffee and his compassionate, insightful support in quieter moments will be fondly remembered.
A Very Special Thank You to All the Staff at the Huronia Guest Home. Your kindness and care for John is appreciated by the family, especially during the current pandemic when we could not be with him.
A Celebration of Life memorial for John will be held at a future time when his family from Denmark can visit without the current pandemic quarantine.
In lieu of flowers, please make a memory donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
John was a son of Newfoundland and enjoyed the people, culture, history and geography of his birthplace. In John’s memory we share part of the poem “Newfoundland” written by Edwin John Pratt.
Here the crags
Meet with winds and tides—
Not with that blind interchange
Of blow for blow
That spills the thunder of insentient seas;
But with the mind that reads assault
In crouch and leap and the quick stealth,
Stiffening the muscles of the waves.
Here they flank the harbours,
Keeping watch
On thresholds, altars and the fires of home,
Or, like mastiffs,
Over-zealous,
Guard too well.
Tide and wind and crag,
Seaweed and seashell
And broken rudder—
And the story is told
Of human veins and pulses,
Of eternal pathways of fire,
Of dreams that survive the night,
Of doors held ajar in storms.
