Obituary for Jane Cubitt (Hutton)

Cubitt, Jane Hutton

“You’re in my heart, you’re in my soul.”

We are heartbroken to announce that our dearest Jane, wife, mother, sister, aunt, nana, daughter, and best friend to so many, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on February 24, 2023.

Jane Hutton Cubitt, always smiling, and uplifting spirits everywhere, inspired us with her courage, showered us with boundless love, listened compassionately, gave us comfort, looked deeply into our eyes and saw the best in us, and filled our lives with fun and laughter. She will live forever in our hearts.

Jane leaves behind her beloved husband and partner, David Cubitt, her daughters, Jordana (Yannos) and Ashley (Matt), sister Sindy (Brian), brother Don (Jennifer), sister-in-law Susan (Mike), and mother-in-law Margaret Cubitt. Jane will be greatly missed by nieces Anya and Kelsey, nephews Jaden and Nicholas, grandchildren Benny, Tessa, and Brodie, and a wealth of lifelong friends. Jane was predeceased by her parents Fay and Donald Hutton, her niece Shelby Maguire and her father-in-law Michael Cubitt.

Jane created a legacy of love, kindness, generosity, and friendship wherever she went, and with whomever she touched with a heart overflowing with love.

Jane refused to be defined by the disease that took her from us much too soon. She fought it every step of the way, raging at the way it stripped her so quickly of her ability to participate fully in conversation, and stole her physical strength and mobility. At the same time, she embraced it fiercely, gradually inking both her arms in matching tattoos with family and friends, while becoming a spokesperson and fundraiser in the hopes that someday soon, a cure will be found for ALS.

There are no words to describe the depth of gratitude we feel for the staggering support, and outpouring of love and friendship which constantly surrounded Jane, encouraged her and kept her in high spirits throughout this very difficult trial. We, her family, are so thankful for the past three years of fun, friendship and support shown to us by our extended family and community.

As per Jane’s wishes, a private family interment will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in support of ALS may be made in Jane’s name using the link www.flyfearlessly.org. All money received through Fly Fearlessly goes to ALS Canada.
