Died peacefully on Thursday April 7, 2022 at Campbell House Hospice, Collingwood at the age of 93. Eric of Stayner, formerly of Alliston. Loving uncle of Susan Hanna (the late David Scott), Debbie Hanna, Sharon (Simon Ainley), Paul (Ginny) Hanna, Kim Hanna Hodgins (Harry Hodgins) and John (April) Hanna. Cherished Great Uncle of Jacob, Lydia, and Hillary Scott, Sean, Alexandra, and Nicholas Ainley, Ben and Emily Hanna, Jody and Jessie Hodgins, Jamie and William Hanna. Great Great Uncle of Onnaleigh, Samuel, Adriana, Annabelle, Ivy, Lou, Eve, Bowen, and Ivy. Predeceased by brothers Dr. Ed (Helen), Enos (Helen), Doug (Marjorie), James “Jim” (Anne). Also predeceased by his parents Dr. J. Edward and Melissa (nee Hunter) Hanna.
Eric attended Dairy School at the University of Guelph where he was awarded a gold medal for finishing top of his class in ice cream and butter making. Eric and Enos Hanna owned the Alliston creamery until 1968. Eric continued working there for a number of years.
He had a wonderful sense of humor, he loved to laugh. Eric truly enjoyed being with friends and family, sharing stories and a laugh. He enjoyed hunting, where he would often walk the entire day and never fire his gun.
His family would like to thank the staff of Blue Mountain Manor, Collingwood General Marine Hospital and the Campbell House Hospice of Collingwood for their care of Eric.
Friends will be received at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home - Stayner Chapel, 7313 Highway 26, Stayner on Tuesday April 12, 2022 from 12:30 p.m. for the Funeral Service at 2 o’clock. Interment Stayner union cemetery. If desired, a donation to Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation, Alliston or Hospice Georgian Triangle for Campbell House would be appreciated by his family.
