Doug passed away peacefully on Sunday June 13, 2021 at the Stayner Care Centre in his 93rd year. He lived a long and full life and is reunited with his beloved Catherine (September 1, 2018). Loving father of Terry Walker (Sandy), Joan McInnis (Richard) and Rick Walker (Nancy). Proud grandfather of Meghan, Shawn, Adam, Drew, Stephanie, Evan and Dylan. Cherished great grandfather of Chase, Caleb, Tyler, Emma, Riley and Eachann. Dear brother-in-law of Susan and Merv Brockwell. Uncle to Garry, Gwenanne, Brock, Wendy, Debbie, Rob, Dave, Martha and Marybelle. He is predeceased by his parents Alex and Bethesda (Toots), brother Mervyn, sister Helen (Mickey), granddaughter Kristen and great granddaughter Elizabeth.
Doug was a loyal and hardworking employee with Ontario Hydro for 38 years, retiring May 31, 1985. Within the Stayner community, Doug coached minor baseball and hockey, served on the Stayner School Board for 2 years and was elected to the Public Utilities Commission for 10 years, Stayner Town Counsellor for 9 years and Reeve of Stayner for 3 years, thus spending 24 years in public service. He was a great athlete and also enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing, along with the friendships established. Doug’s love of history and geography resulted in extensive travel throughout Canada, the USA, the Caribbean and Europe with Catherine, his children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. He helped to build the family home where he and Catherine lived for 60 years. Neighbours will attest to his meticulous pride and care for its’ grounds and Catherine’s flowers. His devoted support of Catherine’s music ministry will never be forgotten.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to all involved in his compassionate care and medical guidance during the past three years.
