Doreen Veres Cone (nee Binning)
It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Doreen at the age of 76 at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital. Beloved wife of the late Steven Veres (1998). Dear mother of Greg Veres (Sandra Loop) and grandmother of Emma Veres and Leah Veres. Sister to Don Binning and sister-in-law to Karen Binning. Predeceased by her mother and father Grace (1971) and Cecil Binning (1988). Predeceased by her siblings Charles Binning (2009) (Judith d. 2010) and Norma McGarry (1990). Sister-in-law to Gord Veres (Sylvia) and Gary Veres (Dale, d. 1995). Doreen will always be remembered by her family including many nieces and nephews and many friends.
Doreen was born and raised in Toronto where she met Steve. They moved to Newmarket and welcomed Greg into their family. They later moved to Bolton and made many lifelong friends. Doreen and her family regularly spent time at family cottages owned by her mother- and father-in-law (Vera & Steven Veres Sr.) and her brother and sister-in-law (Don and Karen). Eventually she and Steve bought their own cottage in MacTier. They loved the outdoors and took weekly trips to the cottage. After Steve’s death, she retired and moved to Florida where she enjoyed the sun & warmth. Greg’s family enjoyed visiting Doreen in Florida, where they all went to Disneyland and other family fun activities. Doreen married Phil Cone (m. 2004-2009, d. 2019). Doreen returned to Canada in 2018 eventually settling in Wasaga Beach and spending much time with her brother and sister-in-law and their circle of friends. She enjoyed reading, creating beaded jewellery, swimming, and gardening..
Doreen passed away after a short (3 week) illness. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society are appreciated. A memorial service will be held at the Wasaga Beach United Church. (380 Zoo Park Rd, Wasaga Beach, ON L9Z 1S7) on Saturday April 22, 2023 at 1pm.
