Obituary for James Stewart "Stew" English

Passed away on January 27th, 2014 in his 91st year. He was born in Treherne, Manitoba and grew up on a farm there. He served as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Bomber Command in the Second World War. Later, he served in the RCAF Auxiliary in 2400 Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron and 411 Squadron. After the war, he went into business working for Christie Biscuits in Winnipeg and Toronto and then Christie’s parent company, Nabisco, in New York City. He rose to be Vice President Corporate Development at Nabisco. While there he led Nabisco’s international expansion program travelling around the world to assess prospective acquisitions. He was among the first businessmen to visit China on behalf of a US company as his Canadian citizenship enabled him to visit China when travel to that country by Americans was prohibited. In his retirement, he lived in the Wasaga Beach area where he had many friends. He was also active in many organizations there. He was predeceased by his wife Jacqueline Andrée (née Kyle). Loving father to Dianne (Russell Minetti) and Allan (Gina), grandfather to Ryan, Carla, Meredith and Kyle, great grandfather to Alex, Emma, Charlotte, Drea, and Colt. The family would like to express its appreciation to the staff at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital for the excellent care they provided for him. Family and friends will be received at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home - Wasaga Beach Chapel, 509 River Road West, Wasaga Beach (705-429-8766) on Friday January 31, 2014 from 2-4 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bayshore Seniors Club, 2000 Tiny Beaches Road S., Tiny, ON L0L 1P1 or the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital Foundation.
