Condolence From: Toby Bruce
Condolence: In 1977 I walked into Larrys room at the U of G International House and said I was joining the Guelph team, oh and "could I borrow some poles and rollerskiis" he said "great to have you on board and ya ya sure to the rollerskiis". Only a matter of a few weeks ago after Christmas I walked into Duntroon as I do constantly being a devoted member , and as usual Larry was lingering near the skiis and I asked if I could borrow some no wax skiis because I am old and lazy, a Larry grin like always and then "ya sure to the skiis". Such was the essence of my 38 yrs knowing the generous, ever congenial Larry , my deepest sympathy to all of the family.

Condolence From: Paul Graner
Condolence: I am so sorry to hear the news. I will miss seeing Larry the next time I am at Highlands Nordic, but I will always look forward to skiing on his trails and staying in the farm house! I experienced many firsts with Larry. He was a huge influence in my early coaching life. He was the first coach I worked with as a coach. I went on my first ski camp/road trip with him in 1982 to Quebec City, with a young Al Pilcher and Darren Derochie. I learned how to follow his pick up truck (“3 on the tree”) at normal speeds on highway 400/11 in search of early snow, but at a much higher rate of speed on back country roads (which was more his style). He taught me how best to order a smoked meat sandwich at the Jolly Roger Pub by the old SOD office in Toronto; how to work the Fischer ski cage selecting skis for all the Fischer sponsored skiers in Canada; how to drink Tim Horton’s coffee on Bayfield Street in Barrie; how to cover a klister ski with hardwax; and, that giving splits is not as easy as it looks! My first Nationals were with Larry in the “Soo” in 1983. I will always remember that night in 1991 at the National’s in Vancouver when Larry’s waxing earned Jack Cook a Silver medal. Along the life journey with Larry I also learned a little about other things, too, like tractor parts. He provided so much to me as a coach and was always supportive and encouraging. My list of “Larry” memories is endless! His ongoing contribution to the greater cross country skiing community will be missed, but I know his enduring and significant legacy will ensure he will always be remembered. Paul Graner Ottawa, ON

Condolence: We were both so shocked to hear of Larry's early departure from "the race". We have so many fond memories of Larry during our many skiing visits to Highlands Nordic. As the many tributes have indicated, he was always happily willing to help you out, give advice and "go the extra mile". He created and maintained a wonderful place in Highlands Nordic which is the stuff of legend! Our thoughts, prayers and hearts are with you Pat and family as you endure this heart wrenching goodbye. Larry's glacier and Larry will always live in our memories!

Condolence: It was with great sadness that I heard of Larry's passing. He was so instrumental in helping so many of us find our own unique way to both participate and to contribute to cross country skiing. I have fond memories of working with Larry as an athlete, an apprenticing coach, a sometime training-camp cook, a staff colleague at the Ontario Ski Council, a fellow ski area operator and event organizer. My heart goes out to the enitre Sinclair family - I know that you carry many wonderful memories of a life well lived.

Condolence From: Sharon Klatt
Condolence: Larry's presence at Highlands Nordic will be greatly missed. It was a great pleasure to have him open the facility for our Greer family reunions. The excitement for old and young alike each time we met was what kind of critters he would have housed in the shed. He always had time to answer any questions that the young kids asked and when answered would carry on doing what he was doing. A quiet man with a big heart. To all the Sinclair family, our most sincere sympathies. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.

Condolence From: Tina (Opsal) de Freitas
Condolence: It was with great sadness to hear of Larry's passing. I can't remember if it was the 60's or 70's when the Sinclair family started joining us in races in SOD. Us 3 Opsal kids spent alot of time training and racing with the three Sinclairs of the same age. As time went on Larry became a big brother to me, encouraging me to pursue coaching. Later, when my own children raced one of my favourite venues to revisit was the Sinclair farm in Duntroon and reconnecting with old friends. His efforts in coaching and running a very successful ski area in Ontario will not be forgotten. We will miss you Larry. Tina (Opsal) de Freitas

Condolence From: Lyle Cameron
Condolence: I was very saddened to learn this evening that Larry is no longer with us. Larry was my first XC coach, back in the U. of Guelph days and I dont think I ever hear a harsh word or negative comment from him ever. He leaves a strong legacy of influence in the XC community for his sportsmanship, determination, optimism and good humour - a real builder of our sport, as so many others have noted. I had always hoped to catch up with Larry sometime and talk about some of the experiences we had together as coaches, sadly, this will never be. Thank you Larry for your steadfast contributions all these years.

Condolence From: Cathy Hodgins
Condolence: As a novice coach for the new Grey Highlands Nordic Ski Team in the mid-90s I relied heavily on Larry for all kinds of support. I knew I wanted to get the team going but I could not figure out the logistics. Larry always had solutions and gave tirelessly, nay, joyfully, of his time and expertise. Without Larry the team, simply, would not have happened. Larry happily did whatever he could to support us. I am so grateful that we travelled the same path for awhile. Condolences to all. Thanks to all of the Sinclair family. My heart aches.

Condolence: I will always remember Larry for his generosity and warm smile above all. He gave so much and was always willing to help others get more out of themselves. Condolence From: Erin Despard
Condolence: Larry was a great coach. He provided support in innumerable technical and practical ways, but what I remember most strongly, is the way the absolute reliability of his kindness and good humour provided a kind of respite or safe harbour in stressful situations. It is hard to put into words how much that can mean to a teenager, but it is surprisingly rare it is to find. I remain deeply grateful whenever I think of him. His passing, so early, is a great loss.

Condolence From: Petra Taylor (Helewa)
Condolence: I would like to offer my most sincere condolences to the Sinclair family. I have very fond memories of our training camps in Collingwood, staying in the family Sinclair home while sharing a room with Cheryl and Shelly, waiting for the delicious breakfast that was sure to come from the wonderfully warm country kitchen. The hospitality and kindness that was shown to all of the athletes by the Sinclair family was well known, and very much appreciated, even after all these years. Please accept my sympathy during this very sad time. Kindest regards, Petra

Condolence From: Laura Robinson
Condolence: It's so difficult to imagine skiing in Canada and not know that Larry isn't somewhere either prepping a pair of skis, grooming a course, or preparing yet another young athlete. We lost you at such a young age Larry, and yet you gave many lifetimes of skiing to the rest of us during that time. Will never forget my first Ontario championships in 1977 when a young guy from U of Guelph team noticed I was all by myself and asked if I wanted to ski with them. We'll carry your lessons in life and knowledge with us forever.

Condolence: It was with great sadness that I learned of Larry's passing earlier this week. I've had the pleasure of working with Larry for many years in a variety of capacities we've each held within the cross country skiing community and no one was more dedicated to the development of the sport at both the recreational and elite levels than he was. He was a guiding light in all aspects of the sport and cross country ski industry itself and his wisdom shared from years of personal experience will be greatly missed. My sympathies to Larry's family and friends but I hope they take comfort knowing his memory will live on within all those skiers whose lives he has both touched and enhanced.

Thank you for all the opportunities and for being so forgiving to an angry teenager. Condolence: The passing of Larry is so sad for both his family and cross country skiing - Larry was a big figure in the history of our sport. He grew the sport - on the tracks as a fierce competitor, as a coach, as an administrator, as a ski area developer and in many other different ways as well. He was a positive force and made a huge difference in moving our sport forward. He will be sorely missed and has left us at too young an age. Our sympathies and condolences go to his family ... memories of Larry will live on through the years at Highlands Nordic ... a first class ski area built by Larry's dedication and effort. So sad that he is gone....
